Description

Amitabha, also known as Amitayus or Amitābha Buddha, is a celestial buddha widely revered in Mahayana Buddhism. In depictions of Amitabha, he is often depicted in a sitting or meditative posture, known as the “Dhyanasana” or “Meditation Pose.” In this posture, he is typically shown holding both hands in a specific mudra, known as the “Dhyana Mudra” or “Meditation Gesture.”

The Dhyana Mudra is formed by placing both hands in the lap, with the palms facing upwards. The right-hand rests on top of the left hand, and the thumbs of both hands gently touch, forming a bridge or connection. This gesture symbolizes tranquility, meditation, and concentration.

Amitabha’s seated form represents his state of deep meditation and profound wisdom. He is often depicted wearing monastic robes, with a serene and compassionate expression on his face. His imagery aims to convey a sense of peace, enlightenment, and the aspiration to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.
